In 1978-92, Michal Cala photographed the Silesian industrial landscape. That is how he created his most important cycle of black and white photographs, 'Slask'. Cala documented the coexistence of workers' districts, old factories, mines, and slag heaps characteristic of that landscape. He also photographed people living in those spaces. In the 1970s, he co-founded the Tyskie Photography Club KRON. Since 1983, he has been a member the Association of Polish Art Photographers. Since 1995, he has been living in Bielsko-Biala. He still photographs Upper and Lower Silesia.
