Avant-garde textile installation artist, painter, photographer, writer and poet. Kuryluk graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw (1970). In the years 1970-1973, she studied art history at the Jagiellonian University in Cracow. Initiator of the O poprawę (For Improvement) artistic movement and co-founder of the Śmietanka (Cream) group. In the years 1982-1985, she received a grant from the Institute for the Humanities (New York University), and in 1984-1985, from Hodder University in Princeton. She is inspired by her own biography and figuration, the myth of the girl of Corinth and the figure of Saint Veronica. Her works are referred to as `body art`, as they often present nudes. Some of her best-known works include graphics on silk and cotton fabrics, spread or hung in various spaces, creating ephemeral and puzzling installations. Ewa Kuryluk has shown her sensitivity to social problems by collaborating with Amnesty International and initiating the Amici di Tworki association, which supports the mental institution in Tworki near Warsaw. She has had numerous individual exhibitions and has participated in many group shows in Poland and abroad. Her works can be found in private and public collections in Europe and the USA, the National Museums in Warsaw, Cracow, Poznań, Wrocław and the Museum of Art in Łódź.
